Firkin Des Moines

1) Some restaurant near our hotel in West Des
Moines/Clive, Iowa. Went for a workshop for
work, other than the downtown or the capitol
at night, we didn't see much of Des Moines.
Here we abandoned our goal of trying the local
cuisine and ate at Macaroni Grill and Texas
Roadhouse (don't ask). We didn't eat here though,
but we had to get a picture of the sign. My new
epithet replacement.
2) A convenience store chain that we saw through
Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri.

Somewhere in Middle America

Omaha - The Counting Crows
None of the pictures that we took of Omaha
were really decent except this one. I would like
to go back and spend some time downtown.
We passed the Orpheum Theatre the morning
after Wilco played. That would have been an
awesome show. If only we'd stayed the night in
Omaha instead of Lincoln. If only we'd known
about the show. Oh well, next time then.

all we are is dust in the wind

Corny, I know. But it's what comes to mind
when I think of Kansas. It's funny, but when I
was driving through, I never thought of that
song once. Or Carry On My Wayward Song, the
only two Kansas songs I know. The second
picture is from a town named Lindsborg, KS.
We stopped as we were passing through, our only
stop in the state. It's nicknamed "Little Sweden"
and we were a day early for their annual festival.
We had some Ligonberry squares and some other
pastry, watched the high school kids practice
going around the maypole, and looked at all the
small painted plaster horse sculptures that are
their symbol. It was nice. That was almost two
months ago. I can't wait to go on another road
trip.
